Today was a day to remember. T. Dennis Barney has taught us so many things and will continue to teach us still as we remember him.
At the funeral was a sweet book mark that was handed out at the end. I would like to post the poem on it for all to read and enjoy.
"The time to be kind is now, the place to be kind is here. We needn't be told the way to be kind, for the way to be kind is clear. But it's good to pause and remember in the heat of our stress and drive, The very best time to live is while we are still alive. The time to be happy is now. The place to be happy is here. The way to be happy is to make others happy simple enough, I fear. But the simple things we are apt to miss as we struggle and fret and strive, forgetting the very best time to live is while we are still alive." In memory of T. Dennis Barney, may we strive to live more as he did and as our Savior would have us live.
TALMAGE DENNIS BARNEY
You got it from your father, it was all he had to give. So it's yours to use and cherish, for as long as you may live. If you lose the watch he gave you, it can always be replaced.
But a black mark on your name son, can never be erased. It was clean the day you took it, and a worthy name to bear. When he got it from his father, there was no dishonor there. So make sure you guard it wisely, after all is said and done. You'll be glad the name is spotless, when you give it to your son.
The righteous legacy of Talmage Dennis Barney will live on because of his life that loved, forgave, and left his fellowman better than he ever found them. He loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, and tried to emmulate Him in thought, action and deed. To know this great man was a treasured gift.

I served in the bishopric as one of Dennis' counselors when Dina and I lived in the Lindsay Ward. Dennis called me at home one early morning, it must have been about 2:00AM. He said, "What are you doing?" I had to laugh. "Well, I was sleeping..Thanks for asking." Dennis then told me he had just received a phone call from someone claiming he was in our ward. The man told Dennis he was at the casino on the reservation and he needed some help from his bishop. Dennis then said to me, "Brent, I am coming over to pick you up and bring your gun." I was a Police Officer at that time. I got dressed, concealed weapon and all. We drove to the casino and talked about this predicament. The man was waiting outside as we drove up. We actually had seen him at church the week before. I sat in the back of the Excursion, directly behind this man who smelt like a brewery. We talked and Dennis would just look at the guy with a "yeah right" type look on his face. Dennis encouraged the man to clean up his life and to get back into the church. We took him to a hotel where Dennis paid for a room. He then pulled out a twenty dollar bill, handed it to the man, and told him he could buy a meal with it. The guy told Dennis that it probably wasn't going to be enough for a tip and all. So, Dennis started to pull more money out of his wallet! I stood behind the man and shook my head "NO". We left the man and drove home. As we sat in front of my house, we talked about God's children. Dennis taught me very simple yet essential gospel principles that early morning. Whenever I read the Sermon on the Mount, I think of Dennis. He exhibited Christ's teachings, in my presence, on more than one occasion. What a great, great man!
